Questions stitchers ask
Is this cross stitch pattern creator free?
Making and editing patterns is free. Patterns up to 60 × 60 stitches download as a free printable PDF, and the color image and backup file are free at any size. A printable PDF for a larger pattern costs $3.99 per pattern, paid once, with no subscription.
Do I need an account?
No. Make and download patterns without signing up. Patterns are saved in your browser; download the backup file to move one to another device.
Is my photo uploaded?
No. Your photo is turned into a pattern right in your browser, on your phone or computer, and never sent to us.
Which floss colors does it use?
DMC stranded cotton. Every color is matched to one of 489 DMC colors, and the thread key lists each number and name, so you can shop straight from it.
How big will my finished piece be?
Divide the stitch count by the fabric count. A pattern 100 stitches wide is about 7.1 inches (18 cm) wide on 14-count Aida. The result card shows the finished size for the fabric you choose.
Can I change the pattern after it is made?
Yes. Choose "Open the editor" under the download buttons to change single stitches, swap or merge colors, and clean up stray stitches.
Can I sell what I make?
Yes. Patterns made from your own photos are yours: stitch them, sell the finished pieces, or sell the patterns.
Does the PDF work with Pattern Keeper?
Yes. We tested our PDFs in Pattern Keeper on Android: it reads the symbols, the thread key and the stitch counts.
