Over 100 free patterns, Halloween collections and a blog

v0.3.1

Sixty-two new free patterns, from Halloween motifs to famous paintings, new collection pages, and the first eight blog posts

What changed

  • 62 new free patterns, bringing the library to 108
  • Halloween: a skull, spider, vampire, zombie, owl, raven, haunted house and more small motifs, plus vintage postcards from around 1910 and spooky public-domain art such as The Scream and Hokusai's ghosts
  • Famous paintings: The Kiss, Monet's water lilies, Café Terrace at Night, Irises, the Mona Lisa, The Birth of Venus and others
  • Animals and landscapes made from free-to-use photos, and Audubon's flamingo and blue jays
  • New collection pages for famous paintings, animals and landscapes; a painting can now appear in more than one collection
  • Collection pages list the quick motifs first and the bigger patterns after them
  • Every new pattern has a stitching tip for that design
  • A blog with eight how-to posts, from stitching on black Aida to washing and ironing a finished piece

A warmer look, and easier ways to start and edit a pattern

v0.3.0

A new oatmeal and amber look on Aida cloth, a clearer first screen, a way to swap photos, and new patterns started right from the editor page

What changed

  • A new look: an oatmeal ground woven like Aida cloth, amber buttons, and a row of cross stitches under each heading
  • The home page shows a photo-to-pattern slider beside the upload box, and the converter takes the whole first screen once you pick a photo
  • Try another photo at any time without going back to the start
  • The crop box opens a little inside your photo and dims everything outside it
  • The editor page can start a new pattern from a photo, and is listed under Tools as Pattern editor
  • A card under the downloads explains what the editor does
  • Clearer wording across the site, and a new About page on how the converter works: no AI, and your photo stays on your device
  • The calculator explains fabric and Aida sizes and how many skeins of floss to buy

Not in this version

  • Backstitch, half stitches and threads other than DMC

Every tool rebuilt, and printable PDFs for larger patterns

v0.2.0

The converter, editor, calculator, letters, crochet graphs, DMC chart and free patterns were rebuilt, and larger patterns can now be bought one at a time

What changed

  • Photo to pattern on the home page: choose a photo or a sample, crop it, pick a size and detail, and download a free PDF up to 60 × 60 stitches
  • Photo conversion is four times faster, keeps eyes and edges sharper, and cleans up stray stitches more gently
  • A full-screen stitch editor: draw, erase and fill, swap or merge colors, clean up strays with a preview, and check against your photo
  • The PDF was rebuilt: color and symbol charts with 10-stitch page overlap, a thread key and skein counts per color. Tested in Pattern Keeper on Android
  • OXS export for other stitching apps, plus color and symbol PNGs and a backup file
  • The cross stitch calculator works both ways (stitches to size, or size to stitches), with fabric to cut, hoop, frame and skeins, and shareable links
  • The DMC color chart has a swatch grid, a nearest-color finder and a printable checklist
  • Cross stitch letters in 17 alphabets, in any DMC color
  • The crochet graph maker does C2C and single crochet, with row-by-row counts and yarn per color
  • 35 free patterns, from small beginner charts to public-domain paintings, each with a free PDF
  • A larger pattern can be bought once for $3.99. The purchase email has a link to download it again on any device, and a refund within 14 days removes the unlock

Not in this version

  • Backstitch, half stitches and threads other than DMC

Crochet wording, a comparison table, and a lighter letter page

v0.1.4

Target phrases on the crochet page, a feature table on compare, and the letter alphabet drawn after load

What changed

  • The crochet page title and heading name it as a graph maker and a pattern generator
  • The compare page has a feature table and still omits scores and other products’ prices
  • The letter-generator alphabet is drawn on a canvas after the page loads
  • The account page asks crawlers not to index it

Chart open, symbols, PDF names, and calculator checks

v0.1.5

Opening another chart drops the previous one, and export no longer fails on a non-Latin file name

What changed

  • Opening a saved chart, or a ?pattern= link, clears the previous photo, undo stack, and any conversion still running
  • Saved charts list eight at a time, with the rest behind View all
  • A chart remembers whether it was made for cross stitch or crochet
  • Ninety colors get ninety symbols that the PDF font can draw. An imported chart with a repeated or unsupported symbol is relabeled, unless it has more than 90 colors
  • A Chinese or emoji chart name still exports; the original name stays on the chart
  • A tall photo is limited on both sides before the grid is built
  • The calculator explains an empty, negative, or decimal stitch count instead of using it
  • A broken JSON file does not replace the chart that is already open

Not in this version

  • A 1000×1000 vector PDF is still not treated as working. Large charts can run out of memory while the file is built.

Preview a chart before editing it

v0.1.6

Photo settings update a preview, and the open chart stays until you use that preview

What changed

  • Photo settings update a preview. The open chart stays until you choose Use this chart
  • Using a preview keeps that grid. It does not run the converter again
  • Replacing an open chart asks first
  • A confirmed chart is saved in this browser. Refresh restores the last successful save
  • An older save does not mark a newer edit as saved
  • New photos stop at 400 stitches on a side. Pages no longer say a paid PDF can go to 1000
  • Print page counts come from the same page split as the PDF. Turning a page draws that page
  • Color and symbol PNG buttons state the pixel size of the file

Not in this version

  • A full printable PDF is still built in one piece. A 1000-stitch vector PDF is not treated as working
  • The editor still draws the whole chart, not only the stitches on screen

Keep large charts and close the full PDF

v0.1.7

Old files stay complete, oversized charts open as an overview, and a full PDF stays closed until a size is measured

What changed

  • A stored chart up to 1000 stitches on a side still opens. The file is not cropped or reduced
  • A chart larger than 400 stitches on a side shows a low-resolution overview. The editor does not allocate a full-resolution canvas
  • A full PDF, including a watermarked PDF, is not offered until a size has been measured. Page-by-page preview stays
  • Checkout stays closed while that full file is not offered
  • Saves for one pattern run in order. An older revision cannot overwrite a newer one
  • A photo preview has its own request number. The open chart changes only after Use this chart succeeds
  • Leaving the page, going back, switching charts, and closing the tab ask before an unsaved edit is dropped

Not in this version

  • No paid stitch count. That waits until the export path is measured
  • The editor still draws a whole chart that is within 400 stitches, not only the stitches on screen
  • Payment is not connected in this step

Keep saves and previews on the chart in front of you

v0.1.8

An older save cannot mark a different chart as saved, and a chart preview cannot be confirmed while new photo settings are waiting

What changed

  • A finished save updates the saved state, the status line, and the refresh restore pointer only when it is still the chart open on screen
  • Changing photo settings drops the previous preview immediately. Use this chart waits until the preview for those settings exists
  • Choosing a second photo ignores a slower decode of the first one. The temporary image address is released either way

Not in this version

  • No paid stitch count. A full PDF and checkout stay closed
  • Payment is not connected in this step

Pages for each job

v0.1.1

Photo, letter, and crochet pages, plus size tables on the free charts

What changed

  • The photo page explains crop, color count, and confetti cleanup
  • The letter page describes the six alphabets
  • The crochet page explains single crochet, corner-to-corner, and tapestry, and says to measure a swatch for yarn
  • Each free chart lists finished size on 14, 16, and 18-count Aida and the floss it uses
  • The contact page shows support@crossstitchpatterncreator.com for questions and refunds

Chart pictures on the free patterns

v0.1.2

Each free chart has its own picture in the page and in the share preview

What changed

  • Each free pattern page shows the chart as an image, including before the editor loads
  • Sharing one of those pages uses that chart as the preview
  • The calculator links to the DMC chart and the how-to for making a pattern
  • The crochet yarn table says the lace row is double crochet, not single crochet
  • Terms say you can use the site without an account

Calculator units and an editor that is in the page

v0.1.3

Centimeter inputs on the calculator, and the pattern editor controls are in the page HTML

What changed

  • The calculator can take a finished size in inches or centimeters
  • Cut size is shown in both inches and centimeters
  • The pattern editor controls are in the page itself, including before the canvas draws
  • Each floss row in the editor shows how many stitches use that color
  • Undo and redo also work with Ctrl+Z and Ctrl+Shift+Z

Pattern editor

v0.1.0

Photo conversion, editing, and printable PDF export

What you can do

  • Turn a photo into an editable cross stitch chart in the browser
  • Export a color PNG and a symbol PNG for free
  • Unlock a printable PDF for one pattern
  • Use the calculator, letter generator, and crochet graph
